چکیده

In Figure 1, we compare additional structural properties of the residual network to those of the original contact network. In particular, we consider transitivity, or the propensity of triangles in the network, and the degree correlation coefficient. To consider the structural impact of the epidemic process in the most extreme situations, we focus on two sets of parameter values: (a) α = 0, T1 ∈ [0, 1], (b) T1 = 1, α ∈ [0, 1] for two sets of average degrees (3, 10) in random networks distributed with Poisson, exponential and scale-free degree distributions. The residual network is attained by performing 500 Monte Carlo SIR percolation simulations on each original random network. As shown below, for all parameter values, absolute values of clustering and degree correlations in the residual network remain small (or decrease) compared to the original network, and thus the assumptions of bond percolation still apply. The scale-free distributed network has large transitivity and disassortativity originally, but absolute values of both measures are reduced due to the infection process.

A review on West African Ebola epidemic dynamics models

Background and aims: The world is threatened by disease outbreak that reaches a public health emergency of international concern, studies to inform public and agencies for effective containment strategy are necessary. Several studies provided vital information of the dynamics and control of Ebola epidemic outbreak in West Africa. Methodologies and techniques in those researches...

The impact of past epidemics on future disease dynamics.

Many pathogens spread primarily via direct contact between infected and susceptible hosts. Thus, the patterns of contacts or contact network of a population fundamentally shape the course of epidemics. While there is a robust and growing theory for the dynamics of single epidemics in networks, we know little about the impacts of network structure on long-term epidemic or endemic transmission. F...

Mathematical modeling, analysis and simulation of Ebola epidemics

‎Mathematical models are the most important tools in epidemiology to understand previous outbreaks of diseases and to better understand the dynamics of how infections spread through populations‎. ‎Many existing models closely approximate historical disease patterns‎. ‎This article investigates the mathematical model of the deadly disease with severe and uncontrollable bleeding‎, ‎Ebola which is...

COVID-19 Outbreak in Africa: Lessons and Insights from the West African Ebola Virus Disease Epidemics

Over the years, the African continent has had to battle several outbreaks of infectious diseases in different countries. Some of the most deadly were the Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreaks that occurred in West Africa between 2014 and 2016 affecting Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone and, more recently, from 2018 to 2020 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In the era of the COVID-19 pand...

The Future of Disease Control Priorities; Comment on “Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Is Published: A Theory of Change Is Needed for Translating Evidence to Health Policy”

The Disease Control Priorities (DCP) project has substantially influenced national and global health priorities since 1993. DCP’s basic framework involves identification of disease burdens based on premature deaths and disability and application of the most cost-effective interventions to the largest burdens, taking into account local feasibility. The future impact of DCP will need to take into...
